Reading Book of Love, much reference to illustration, so I paged through Rajput Painting by Roda Ahluwalia. Looks lovely, hope to have time to read it soon. Was very impressed to see, reading captions, that the author makes it plain when there is uncertainty regarding subject matter. This in stark contrast to another book that I paged through, Marlene Dumas by Ilaria Bonacossa, where a caption on p 55 reads: "...the sinner has long unruly hair, typical of African women....". Having lived in South Africa all my life, I have yet to see a single African woman with long unruly hair.
